About

Vector Split divides one vector layer into multiple files, with four split modes: one feature per file, split by attribute value (one file per unique value), split by quantity (a fixed number of features per file), and split by vector extent. A preview shows exactly how many output files each setting will produce before you run it.

Splitting is how you turn a national dataset into per-province files, break a huge layer into manageable tiles for browser rendering, or export each administrative unit as its own deliverable. All split files can be downloaded in one click as a batch, and the whole operation runs locally in your browser.

How to Use

  1. 1

Upload the vector file you want to split; a preview shows the feature count and available attribute fields.

  2. 2

Choose the split mode — by feature, by property value, by quantity (features per file), or by extent — and pick the property field or per-file count; the preview updates with the resulting file count.

  3. 3

Run the split and download all generated files at once or select individual ones.

FAQ

QWhat is the difference between the split modes?

A"By feature" produces one file per feature — useful for individual deliverables. "By property value" groups features sharing the same attribute value, e.g. one file per province. "By quantity" chunks the layer into fixed-size files, e.g. 1000 features each. "By extent" divides the data geographically.

QHow do I split a national layer into one file per province?

AChoose "Split by Property Value" and select the province name or code field. The tool scans the field's unique values and generates exactly one output file per value, each containing only that province's features.

QCan I download all the split files in one click?

AYes. After the split completes, "Download All" packages every output file into a single archive so you do not have to save them one by one. Individual files remain available for separate download.

QDo the split files keep the original attributes and format?

AYes — each output file preserves the source attributes and geometry exactly; splitting never modifies coordinates or fields. You can also choose the output format before running the split.
