GeoPackage is an open standard defined by OGC, implemented on SQLite database technology. It is a single container file that can simultaneously store vector features, raster imagery, attribute tables, and map tiles. GeoPackage requires no database server and can be used directly on mobile devices and desktop applications, making it an ideal choice for modern GIS data exchange.
GeoJSON is a geospatial data interchange format based on JSON. It can represent Point, LineString, Polygon, MultiPoint, MultiLineString, MultiPolygon, and GeometryCollection geometries. Defined by RFC 7946, GeoJSON has become one of the most popular data exchange formats in web GIS. GeoJSON files use WGS84 coordinates and support Feature objects with associated properties and FeatureCollections for organizing multiple features.
GeoPackage has become the modern exchange standard for field data collection and QGIS projects: a single .gpkg file holding many vector layers (and even tiles). But web tools want one JSON per layer. Converting GeoPackage to GeoJSON unpacks the container — pick the layer you need and get a FeatureCollection every web map and API can consume, with field types and attributes intact.
You choose which layer to export; each conversion produces one GeoJSON FeatureCollection for the selected layer.
No — this tool converts vector layers. Raster tiles need a raster conversion path.
Standard OGC GeoPackage vector tables are fully supported, including RTree spatial indexes for fast reads.
Upload your GeoPackage file — drag and drop it onto the page, or browse from your device. You can add several files at once for batch conversion.
The conversion runs automatically in your browser. No upload, no server — your data stays on your device the entire time.
Download the GeoJSON file. Each input produces its own output, ready to use in your GIS, web map, or archive.
