DWG (Drawing) is Autodesk AutoCAD's native binary design file format, the most widely used format in engineering design and drafting. DWG files contain rich design information including vector graphics, text annotations, layer definitions, and block references. Vector features from DWG can be extracted to standard GIS formats through GDAL/OpenDesign libraries.
KML (Keyhole Markup Language) is an XML-based geographic markup language originally developed by Keyhole and later acquired by Google, becoming an OGC standard. KML can describe points, lines, polygons, image overlays, 3D models, and other rich geographic content. It is the native format for Google Earth and Google Maps. KML files organize geographic data using tags and attributes, and support style definitions and network link functionality.
DWG is the native, closed format of AutoCAD — the file that architecture, engineering and surveying offices produce every day. KML is the open format of Google Earth and Google Maps, so converting DWG to KML is the fastest way to put CAD drawings, building outlines, pipe networks and survey lines on a map anyone can view.
Unlike cloud converters that require uploading your drawings to their servers, this tool parses DWG directly in your browser using WebAssembly. Confidential CAD and survey data never leave your device — safe for commercial, engineering and government projects.
There is no sign-up, no conversion quota and no file size limit. Whether you convert one drawing or fifty, everything runs on your own computer at full speed, keeping layers, attributes and geometry intact. Coordinate systems are handled automatically: the source CRS is detected from your file and can be corrected via a searchable EPSG picker, while KML output is always reprojected to WGS84 (EPSG:4326) as the format requires.
Viewing CAD drawings in Google Earth for site context, client presentations and stakeholder reviews
Sharing survey and engineering data with people who don't have CAD software installed
Overlaying building outlines, pipe networks and parcel boundaries on web maps
Preparing planning or permit submissions that require KML/KMZ attachments
KML is always written in WGS84 (EPSG:4326) geographic coordinates — the coordinate system Google Earth requires. Because of this format rule, the converter locks the output CRS to WGS84 for you: any other output selection is ignored, and there is nothing to configure on the target side.
Your only task is making sure the source CRS is correct. The converter auto-detects it from the file (.prj sidecar or coordinate analysis); if the detection is wrong, search the correct system by EPSG code or name in the source picker, and the geometry is reprojected to WGS84 automatically before export. Frequently used source systems:
| geoo.app | Cloud converters | Desktop (QGIS / AutoCAD) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| File upload | None — runs in your browser | Required — files are sent to a server | Not required |
| Registration & cost | Free, no sign-up | Free tier ≈ 3 conversions/month, then paid | Free (QGIS) / paid license (AutoCAD) |
| File size limit | None — limited only by your device | Upload caps, timeouts on large CAD files | None |
| Confidential data | Never leaves your device | Stored on third-party servers | Stays on your device |
| Installation | None — any modern browser | None | Software install required |
No. This is a no-upload converter: the DWG file is parsed and converted to KML entirely in your browser. Your drawing is never transmitted to any server, which makes it safe for confidential projects.
Yes, completely free with no sign-up and no monthly conversion limit. You can convert as many DWG files to KML as you need.
No. Because the conversion runs locally in your browser, there is no upload size limit. Large CAD drawings that cloud converters reject or time out on can be converted here.
Yes. You need neither AutoCAD, QGIS nor any desktop software — the converter reads DWG directly in your browser and produces a KML that opens in Google Earth.
Yes. Layer structure and attribute data are carried over into the KML, so you can toggle and inspect your CAD layers in Google Earth.
KML/KMZ always uses WGS84 geographic coordinates, and this converter reprojects automatically — so a wrong location almost always means the source CRS was misdetected. Open the coordinate system picker, search the correct EPSG code for your drawing, and convert again; the output will land in the right place.
Upload your AutoCAD DWG file — drag and drop it onto the page, or browse from your device. You can add several files at once for batch conversion.
The conversion runs automatically in your browser. No upload, no server — your data stays on your device the entire time.
Download the KML file. Each input produces its own output, ready to use in your GIS, web map, or archive.
