DWG (Drawing) is Autodesk AutoCAD's native binary design file format, the most widely used format in engineering design and drafting. DWG files contain rich design information including vector graphics, text annotations, layer definitions, and block references. Vector features from DWG can be extracted to standard GIS formats through GDAL/OpenDesign libraries.
GeoJSON is a geospatial data interchange format based on JSON. It can represent Point, LineString, Polygon, MultiPoint, MultiLineString, MultiPolygon, and GeometryCollection geometries. Defined by RFC 7946, GeoJSON has become one of the most popular data exchange formats in web GIS. GeoJSON files use WGS84 coordinates and support Feature objects with associated properties and FeatureCollections for organizing multiple features.
DWG is the native, proprietary format of AutoCAD — the file every architecture, engineering, and surveying office produces. Because it is closed, web tools usually refuse it. Converting DWG to GeoJSON unlocks those drawings for GIS and web mapping: building outlines, pipe networks and survey lines become GeoJSON features with layer metadata, ready for QGIS, Leaflet, or PostGIS — all parsed locally in your browser so the drawing never leaves your machine.
Common releases in modern use are supported. Very old or newest-day-one releases may not be; exporting a DXF from AutoCAD is a reliable fallback.
Text entities are converted as point features carrying the text string as a property, so labels are not silently lost.
Only geometry stored inside the file is converted. Attach external references before converting if they must appear in the output.
Upload your AutoCAD DWG file — drag and drop it onto the page, or browse from your device. You can add several files at once for batch conversion.
The conversion runs automatically in your browser. No upload, no server — your data stays on your device the entire time.
Download the GeoJSON file. Each input produces its own output, ready to use in your GIS, web map, or archive.
