About

The Vector Converter moves your vector geospatial data between Shapefile, GeoJSON, KML, GPX, DWG, DXF, GeoPackage, CSV, TopoJSON, FlatGeobuf and 20+ other formats. Drop in a file — including complete Shapefile groups (.shp + .dbf + .shx + .prj) — and the source format is detected automatically.

Conversions run through an in-memory GeoJSON pipeline powered by WebAssembly: geometry, attributes and coordinate systems are preserved, and you can reproject the output to any EPSG coordinate system before downloading.

This is the universal workspace for every vector conversion on the site — all 250+ format pairs are supported right here. You never need to hunt for a specific "SHP to GeoJSON" or "KML to DXF" page: those pages exist for search engines and direct links, but this one converter handles any source-to-target combination in a single place.

Everything happens locally in your browser. Your data is never uploaded to a server, which makes the converter safe for confidential or licensed datasets. Batch conversion is supported — convert several files in one go.

Not sure which target to pick? The most common routes are Shapefile to GeoJSON (web mapping) and DWG/DXF to GeoJSON (CAD into GIS); the scenario cards below suggest targets by task.

How to Use

  1. 1

Upload your vector file (for Shapefile, select the whole group: .shp + .dbf + .shx + .prj). The format is detected automatically.

  2. 2

Check the detected source coordinate system and, if needed, search for the correct one by keyword or EPSG code.

  3. 3

Choose the target format and the output coordinate system. By default the output keeps the source CRS.

  4. 4

Click Convert, preview the result on the map, and download the converted file.

Common Use Cases

Deliver across GIS software

Move layers between QGIS, ArcGIS, GRASS and SAGA by converting between Shapefile, GeoPackage and GeoJSON without losing geometry precision or attribute fields.

Publish interactive web maps

Turn SHP or KML into GeoJSON, TopoJSON or FlatGeobuf — compact formats that load instantly in Leaflet, MapLibre and D3-based visualizations.

Bridge CAD and GIS

Import DWG and DXF drawings into GIS workflows, or export vector layers back to DXF for engineers still working in CAD.

Bring field GPS data back to the office

Convert GPX tracks and waypoints, or CSV coordinates exported from survey apps, into full GIS formats with attributes attached to every feature.

FAQ

QWhich vector formats are supported?

AMore than 25 vector formats, including Shapefile, GeoJSON, KML, KMZ, GPX, GML, GeoPackage, SQLite, DWG, DXF, CSV, XLSX, ODS, TopoJSON, FlatGeobuf, GMT, MIF/MID and more. The full list is shown below.

QAre my files uploaded to a server?

ANo. All parsing and conversion runs locally in your browser via WebAssembly. Your files never leave your device.

QAre attributes and coordinate systems preserved?

AYes. Feature attributes are carried through the conversion, and the output keeps the source coordinate system by default — you can also reproject to any EPSG CRS in one step.

QWhich files make up a complete Shapefile?

AUpload .shp together with .dbf and .shx, ideally also .prj and .cpg. Select the whole set at once, or drop the folder or a ZIP — the converter assembles the bundle automatically.

QWill attribute fields survive conversion?

AField names and values pass through the in-memory GeoJSON pipeline into every target format. Attribute encoding is read from the .cpg file, so non-Latin labels stay readable.

QCan I reproject during conversion?

AYes. Pick any EPSG code before converting and the output is reprojected on the fly, with the source CRS detected from the .prj file or from the coordinates themselves.
